Seed Pod Surprise

Trumpet Flower vines (Campsis radicans) in the farm, after 3 year produced this 20191117_201500interesting 4″ long seed pod! It was left alone for almost 3 months and finally harvested last week.

I had never seen something like this before. The pod was beautifully packed by wafer thin seeds. The seeds were flat, oval dark brown discs resembling an eye ball with fine grey brown membranes that frayed at the edges. I wonder, how these wafers got packed so neatly, symmetrically in perfect rows with a black separator between the two rows inside the pod.

Nature manages to surprise every time no matter what. When you think you have see all, know all about it, there comes a something unexpected.
